Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., center, leads thousands down Woodward Avenue for Detroit's March for Freedom June 24, 1963. This and other historic photos of the city in the 1960s were provided by The Detroit News library to DreamWorks Pictures research department for help in preparing for the movie "Dreamgirls." The film is loosely based on Detroit's own Supremes and the Motown era.
