2007 Estancia Pinot Grigio California , $12

-- July 18, 2008

Estancia wines are known for their high-powered flavors. They punch the button on fruit. And acidity. The Pinot Grigio, pressed in small basket presses and aged briefly in neutral French oak, certainly has assertive aromas and flavors. Swirl and sniff, and your nose is bombarded with nectarine, apricot, pineapple and lots of lime. The brief time in oak helps broaden the feel in the mouth. The flavors that give a shout are zesty lime, valencia orange, kiwi and passion fruit. There's a definite greenness to the flavors. And all of these components, braced by minerality, follow through to the finish.
