Michigan victory
Just returned to Fla from AA. It was indeed an ugly win with the team sustaining more injuries. No QB quality. I feel a long seaseon is in the offing. My wish list now includes the Irish losing 2 in a row. MSU will be a killer to beat on their turf, and I feel that Sparty has a better team. Not so UM. It will take some luck and good D to beat the Irish in South Bend.
Michigan had the smallest crowd in 10 years. The fans are indeed fickle. Spent some quality time with Red Berenson. We talked earlier with Red Cedar as to how down to earth hockey coaches are. How classy they all are as far as I can see.

My Bro warned me against excessive optimism over the 4-0 exhibition season, "it's the Lions said he". Of course it is, a few worthy players who don't deserve this fate. The Lions are cursed, there is no other explanation. We have surely seen this movie before.
Sparty news
Expanded student section at Sparty stadium has the students in upper deck last 3 sections on east end. Also, added another section toward end zone, I believe they now have l0=14. Students sounded great and can't wait to hear them in Notre Dame game. Professional sections did absolutely nothing as usual. Javon Ringer is leading the nation in scoring, while Mark Dell is 4th in receiving yards and Otis Wiley is 4th in interceptios. California is # 23 and should be in top 15. I re-watched the MSU game against CAl and the Bears have as much speed on defense as MSU will encounter all year. RICE: Are you taking the "under" in U of M/Notre Dame game? I'm looking for a game like 14-10 or 10-7, with the Irish winning. Both teams horid on offense, but U of M defense is better. Clausen is terrible, but not as bad as Threet or Sheridan. Big question in recruiting is if Cass Tech's Thomas Gordon going to take MSU scholly offered to him last week? The 5-ll, 190lb QB, would play Safety for the Sparty's. I don't think MSU has but a couple scholly's to give, so time would be of the essemce for this young man.Fla. Atlantic's QB Rusty Smith a 6-5 junior was Sun Belt's player of the Year in 07. Smith threw for 3688 yds with 32 TDs and only 9 int's. The OWLS return nine players on offense and 8 on defense. This team won't be as fast as California, but having the majority of Florida players they will be close.
dangs
Willie Parker? 31 points? What in sam hill?
And, everybody I traded is blowing up! Thank Bucky's God Rice didn't give me Portis!!!!
Cal keeps it going....
...they take Wazoo to the woodshed (I think @ Pullman) 59-3. Nice to know MSU can hang on the road. A bounce here a bounce there.
Pro football
I'm sure I told this story before. In l972, living in Fla. I was a big Dolphin fan. As they had the perfect season that wasn't to hard to do. When Tampa got the Buc franchise in l976, we got Tampa Bay season tickets and had them for over 20 years, until they built Raymond James Stadium and screwed over long time ticket holders. Wife and I traveled to some away games and I lived and died the Bucs, for years while they were losing until they won the Super Bowl in 2001. I literally cried that day as I was so happy for long time Tampa Bay fans and players and what we had endured all those years. That was the day I gave up pro sports and NFL football. Even today I tried and watch alittle of the Lions game and switched over to golf. College football and basketball is all I watch now and obviously because of my love for MSU and the Big l0. My nerves are much better than they were as a Buc fan and I like watching these college players grow from young boys into young men. They all will succeed in some way whether they play at the next level, get degrees in a chosen field or just use some of what they learned to be better people. I guess I'm lucky I live in Fla. 6 months as I have plenty to do outside and don't need year around sports to keep me busy.
Big Cee
I did you one better. I scurried to grab the Lion "D" to match up with rookie Ryan thinking they would shut him down with their speed capitalizing on Ryan's opening day jitters. Ha! Thinking again. It's the Lions!! Moron!!
Hurricane Ike
Looks like i'll be throwing in the towel soon. Turner with a career day. Thank you Detroit Lions you sorry arse M@#$%^&*! Just load your lineup with Lion opponents, works everytime.....

One other thing, I get that you're doing this from love and that you believe you're doing your level best to help me. That's why I can never bring myself to get mad at you. You're a good egg, B1. You really are. But, there is a reason I got out of preaching the gospel. I DO NOT BELIEVE it is the way. I believe Christ's message was the way. The religionists have changed that, in my view. It is not what it was. The council of Trent did enough to change it so it never looked the same. It never will again. I respect you. I believe you are trying to help. But, I'm okay. And, my soul is okay too. Trust me there, my friend.
TC
B1,
We do not agree. We are never going to agree. When we die, we will know. And, I've done that once and remember it. I think I'm right, but I can't prove it. As a matter of fact, Dude, neither can you and you have admitted that back channel. This is faith based. We BELIEVE DIFFERENTLY. In the meantime, I have love and respect for you so I am not going to go into this further. If I offended you in some way, that was not my intent. However, and finally, am I not allowed to say how I believe without a lecture from you that includes quoting a book that I will wager I have read more times than most since I used to make my living preaching it?

Problem is.... Tressel does not care about the polls. He buried the playbook on both sides of the ball. They had a couple close calls against teams they should have killed the year they won the NC. A different team will show up next week.
My thoughts
Rice: I don't know about you, but I picture my ole Aunt Esther with wheels and that's not a pretty sight. My Aunt Esther was twice as big as Uncle Lyle and he would have had to pull that wagon. In the making me mad dept. How many notice that on college Saturday, ESPN, NBC, whomever gives the top 25 scores several times a day and at night. They always include U of M and Notre Dame in those reuslts even though they certainly aren't in the top 25. Just another reason to "hate" these two schools.
Buckeye
Do you wonder if your Bucks are starting to look like one trick ponies? That was a seriously embarrassing performance yesterday, yes you escaped with a win, but without Beanie, your chances against USC just went from slim to none and slim left town.
TC
And, since I believe the devil is a concept that human religions made up to cover for the fact that they lack the courage to completely love and admit that they don't know everything there is to know about everything
TC, yes God is a God of love. You understand that part. But the part that you skip over is that he is also a perfect and righteous judge who must sentence the guilty, which is us. You have this incorrect view of man that we are not bad people, and you have this incorrect view of God that he can somehow wink at our lawbreaking. Nothing could be further from the truth. God is a perfect and righteous judge. He must punish the guilty. Judgment is coming whether you choose to believe it or not. If he could wink at it like you want him to, then he ceases to be a perfect judge. Yes, he is a God of love. But he is also a God of justice. James 5:9. Behold, the judge standeth at the door. TC, in love I say get ready cause it is coming. Whether you acknowledge it or not will not prevent it from occurring.
Games
Well, a couple wins for the local folks. We had the in-laws over, so we had to put the UM-MU game on picture in picture for one of the sisters (oddly who went to EMU).
Anyway, pretty much what I expected from MSU. Missing out on 14 points early wasn't good with the Ringer fumble and Cunningham not pulling in a TD catch on the next drive.
It was nice to see MD nuturing the smashmouth attitude, still pounding it when EMU put 9-10 guys in the box. Still it was EMU, so you can't take too much from it.
I find it interesting that they were feeding Ringer the TDs like tha., It's not a bad idea for a fledgling program to receive some extra attention with a guy who can be in the running late for postseason awards.
Didn't watch much OSU, but it appears they had their hands full, needing a punt return to put it away. Still, next week is all that matters, I do believe the pollsters will quickly forget this week if they take out USC, though I will not be picking them to.
As for UM, not good. The QB play still was brutal, I don't recall seeing a pass completed beyond 5 yards. I do believe Notre Darn will be able to stop that next week. As Rice has said, if Miami could catch the ball it would be 0-2 time.
Really pretty much what I expected, Miami would be close but not ready for primetime, and UM would win because they thought they could.
