School lock down
To ms Johnson and other offended students. Boo Hoo Too Bad. Look at the schools and the problems. Just be glad that on one has attacked you in the hallway or the rest room or even the class room. Remember when you leave the nest and become a tax payer then and only then will you not be a burden on socity. Until then accecpt the fact that rules although not to your liking will still have to be followed. To the Adminstration Way to Go. Keep it up
Pontiac Schools
Instead of crying about the lockdown why not use your pier pressure to stop the violance in your school. You kids are either part of the solution or part of the problem.
I am tired of hearing kids say why am I being punished you are not you are being protected and you can help by letting the system know who the bad apples are you all know.
Accountability!
Leadership that installs Financial Officers that do not know what is doing on is indicative to poor oversight by the General Superintendent-blames stops and starts with the leadership and his or her team.
Before she took office she should have asked for an audit to her liking before she was to begin-this shows a lack of sagacious actions on the part of the Superintendent.
I have suggested a thousands times that the district needs to sale closed down school to online university to lend geographic preferrence to said schools-meaning they would have a Detroit brick and mortart footprint that would allow many of the inner city moms who are single and want to go back to school access to computers, internet, printing, and facilities 24hrs a day.
No one is listening everyone seems to have their own agendas and we have Board members depriving their kids to a point where its criminally negligent!
Our outgoing president had his hands full. And to think the Board wants to be paid 60,000,00+ for their jobs. I believe if they are to be paid the shoujld make no more than 35,000 per person because of the budget short fall and everyone on the management side needs to take a 20% pay cut!
This inspires the frontline teachers to take a similar pay cut.
Burnley left us in a hole and it seems Mrs. Calloway's lack of capacity to manage this district is only beginning to percolate!
Teacher Beating in Pontiac
I hope that both of those punk thugs who beat up the teacher spend a long, long time in prison. Since they decided to beat up and adult they should be treated as adults and put in with adults. Let's see how tough they are when they meet Bubba in prison. And the rest of the students at those Pontiac schools should just SHUT UP and learn. Schools are a place to learn and better yourself and teachers should be respected.
students criticize tighter rules
But students like Johnson -- who take pride in their behavior and accomplishments -- say they're punished for the actions of a few."I'm a good student and it makes me feel like I'm not trusted to do what I want to do," said Johnson, 17, a senior
Welcome to the world of adults, Mr. Johnson. And since you HS students do not like this lockdown, instead of whining, do something about it. Be a leader and team together to makes positive changes. Don't know how to do this? Join the Army; they'll teach you. Apparently you're missing the most important point of this lockdown that is a teacher was assaulted. It's not about YOU. I apologize for us babyboomers instilling a "self-centered entitlement mindset" into your thinking, but we were wrong.
BTW, I am not sure when it became socially unacceptable to defend yourself, but I've been in TKD for the better part of 20 years and if any 16 year old EVER attacks me, I will NOT hesitate to use my feet against their head, and I can do it well. In self-defense class you learn very quickly that there is no such thing as he said/she said. It' about self-defense period. These teachers need to learn self-defense. I had to deal with a 15 year old down the street removing our stop sign, giving my fiancee the finger as she drove past him on the street, he was cursing at us, he was grabbing girls, basically being an azz. I walked up to him two years ago and kindly said, if you want to act like an adult, be ready to be treated like one. We haven't had any problems with him since. 99% there is not need to get physical as these kids are just trying to push your buttons. But the kids in karate class know better and they fully understand what I am saying. Everyone should be in some type of martial arts class to know how to defend yourself. Trust me, it's worth the money. You'll gain confidence and more importantly, you'll see just how rediculous these kids are really acting because you'll learn how to truly fight without being violent. It's all in the training. These kids are nothing more than a bunch of punks without discipline and unfortunately, the closer they get to being 18 years of age, the closer all of us are going to have to deal with them also. And don't think the cops aren't watching these kids because they are. The day these kids turn 18, it'll be too late to act sorry.
Where are the unemployed parents?
Parents ought to be asked by the district to volunteer for hall monitoring. The need for more women to escort females to the bathroom and vice versa.
The unemployed folks need to be provided with a lunch-maybe in the cafeteria and bus fare to and fro. This way they can at least sustain themselves while they volunteer.
Students should not be in the hallways inbetween classes anyway and their should be a computerization of class rolls for each class and every teacher should have a computer in their classroom at their desk where all they would have to do is click on a truancy alert and a letter is automatically mailed from the district and a copy to the courts for truancy violations! This will at least up the accountability on the part of the students and parents!
DPS Layoffs
More good news. Didn't take a genius to figure this out.
Detroit Schools
The first thing they need to do with the Detroit Schools is send everyone who deals with the money in this system to school so they can learn how to keep the books. Then those that refuse to do it correctly get rid of them, those that steal from the system be made public examples.
This system has the money but it seems that there is continual mismanagement and no one does a darn thing about it but report it and cry about it.
This is unexeceptable just plain unexeceptable.
layoffs in Detroit
This is exactly why the state needs to come in and take over the entire DPS and the entire city of Detroit.
DPS AGAIN??
You people down in that section of the state seem to have a problem finding homnest folks to work!! Paying teachers that were declared excess under the table?? Sheeeeeese you people at DPS need the State to run your business, Or maybe the Mayor would help out??
Pontiac Schools
As a former resident in West Bloomfield now living in Atlanta Georgia, Pontiac schools are horrible. Desperate need of a state takeover. What a shame, very embarrasing. Hard to substantiate Pontiac schools and Michigan in the south. Pontiac schools must go bye bye!
State oversight
How about state oversight for the City Of Detroit as a whole? Why hasn't Jenny sent in Lou Schimmel to fix Detroit yet? It is dragging down all of southeast Michigan.
Detroit Schools face $45M deficit
As a Detroit Public Schools Educator, sadly, I am not surprised by what is taking place. Losing students, as well as mismanagement of funds is quite apparent. Layoffs have already started. I received my pink slip on April 30th. Every year since 2005, I have been laid off due to economic necessity. My last pink slip resulted in a year being laid-off. I was recalled in December.
Unfortunately, there are so many challenges within the district that it is going to take a miracle from God to fix. I pray that the district will eventually move toward success. The students, parents, as well as the educators who are dedicated and want to make a positive impact deserve better.
Detroit School Budget Shortfall
What a surprise! The Detroit schools are now showing a 45 million dollar shortfall in their budget. Let the finger pointing begin. Is there a brain cell somewhere in the Detroit school administration? Enough already. The state of Michigan must step in and manage the schools. While they are at it, Granholm should oust this clown Kwame and appoint Dennis Archer interim mayor. Does anyone in this miserable city know what the hell they are doing. World class city? Give me a break.
Detroit Schools $45 Million deficit
Someone please explain why in hades do our schools have such an embareassing deficit when the "Lottery Profits" are reported to be sent to schools! If the Hundreds and hundreds of millions are sent to our schools, we should have the absolute best schools in the nation! Just exactly where is this "Lottery Profit Money" going?
