The Red Wings seemed like an easy pick for the Stanley Cup finals to me. They were 50 seconds away from a 3-2 series lead last year in game 5 against Anaheim. Had they won that game they would have taken the WC finals and the cup. This year's team had the missing components that last year's team lacked. Osgood is by far better in goal than Hasek was last year. Johan Franzen has brought to this team what they expected and didn't get from Bertuzzi last year. An injured Schneider has been replaced by a healthy Rafalski. Kronwall is both healthy and being paired with a reliable defensive partner that allows him to make big hits and get involved more in the offense. Overall the defense is deeper, better, and healthy. If the Wings had these pieces last year, they would have beaten the Ducks and the Senators. And like I said, they almost did it with less last year. So, why wouldn't people think they had a chance this year? The Ducks lost McDonald and Penner, 2 of their top 6 forwards. The Sharks were essentially the same team that got beaten by a weaker Wings team last year. Perhaps the question should be: Why would anyone pick them?

Everyone that Lizzy listened to on XM radio was wrong. I was wrong. Mike Swiatecki was wrong. TSN was wrong. ESPN was wrong. Nobody with half a brain thought the Wings had a shot at the finals, the 4th round.
It turns out we were wrong, and you are very lucky that you can gloat that we are all wrong because Anaheim folded like a cheap suit, the Sharks failed miserably as they always do, and even Dallas got too tired and is about to lose round 3. Colorado had injuries, the Wild never pass round 1, and Calgary can't beat the Sharks. Nobody knew this would happen. It seemed like the Sharks, after winning 15 games in a row or something, would decimate the league. It's usually just a toss of the dice to see who wins anyway.
I hope the Wing fans.....
give them refs a good booing on Saturday, if they need it!
