MIKE WAS ON ESPN NEWS!
Hey Mike,
I caught your interview at 7:30 nice job! You make me laugh because the way you word things makes you neutral haha! I love it! The interviewer was smirking BTW.
Take Care Mike!
GO LIONS!
FIRE MATT MILLEN!
Youth?
I am so young that I still wear a diaper!
Oh, wait...
That could be because I am so old...
I can't remember.
Goodell and Spygate
Mike, in my question about Commissioner Goodell, your response was:
"I'll turn it around. What evidence do you have that he isn't believable? Who's come forward with more credible info? Nobody."
That was my point, to a point: How could there be more credible info when the original info, the Patriot tapes, were destroyed by the NFL after being viewed only by the NFL hierarchy? There was nothing to compare the Walsh tapes to in order to see if the evidence was new or not. That was the credibility question I was exploring.
As for Brown's Creamery on W. 7 Mile, I would give maybe an arm to have a double dip chocolate cone just once more....
I'm still young because . . .
I'm still fuming over the crease call in the Wings game. What do you think, Mike? I've heard radio comments that it was a make-up call. (Funny, I didn't know they were dating.)
one more I am so old
Actually, NOT! Mike - I'm going to flip the TV tray.
I'm still young because . . . I remember starting "I am so old" a week ago on May 8th. Let's see if our favorite bloggers can find a reason for saying "I'm still young because . . ."
Brian Calhoun
Hi Mike,
What is your opinion of Brian Calhoun? He was a very highly-rated third down/"scat" back coming out of
Wisconsin--will he be that guy again in Detroit?
Personally, I'd like the depth chart to read Kevin Smith, Brian Calhoun, Jerome Felton, Tatum Bell and I'd like it to stay that way...I'm sick of the "position by committee" stuff on this team. It's counter-productive, especially on the lines.
Thanks.
VT
Calhoun looked quick and fast in the one practice the media could watch last week. We'll see more in mini-camp next week.
Running back and defensive line always will be rotated. Even LaDainian Tomlinson gets relief.
Defensive Line Prospects
Hi Mike,
Any word on how the Lions rookie d-line prospects looked in camp--Avril, Fluellen and Hardie?
Thanks
VT
Hard to say. Avril's very quick, but you have to see interior linemen with pads on.
Roy Williams
Nice one Mike HAHA but in the end they will look back and say that they should have traded him.. it's the way of the lion you know that.
Roy Williams
I prefer bacon or ham and the eggs either scrambled or over easy.
Spygate and beyond
The Boston Herald has apologized for its story just before the Super Bowl saying that the Patriots had taped the Rams run-through before their Super Bowl game in 2002. What impact it had on the game itself is debatable. Great teams should be able to put aside such distractions. Nevertheless, as it was a sourced story, I wonder if 20 years ago it would have run. The Internet is wonderful as a communications tool, but I am curious if sports reporters and editors feel more urgency to fill space in a voracious news environment than in the past? Do you have any thoughts on how it has affected reporting -- good or bad -- and especially in regard to the reporting of unsubstantiated rumors?
Ddarwin
The urgency has always been there. In some cases, the internet has caused some people to be less careful with the facts. The issue with the Herald's story is how reliable the source was thought to be. As it turns out, it was unreliable. However, we don't know who the source was. It could have been someone who was abolutely, 100 percent credible -- up to that point. It happens. And I would think the reporter cleared the source with his editors. The bottom line is, it backfired.

Mike,
one more I am so old
That Dusty Rhodes story was hilarious.
Spygate!
Mike, looking for your take on this topic:
Today, the Commish met with Matt Walsh, got tapes from him and showed the tapes to the media of teams' defensive signals taped by/for the Patriots that Walsh had in his possession.
The Commish considered these tapes as "consistent with what we discovered and the Patriots admitted to previously."
Now, wait a minute! The previous tapes turned over to the NFL by the Patriots have all been destroyed by the NFL. No one, sans the Commish's office, saw those tapes, certainly not the media or any fan.
Fans, teams, owners, writers are being asked to accept Goodell's remarks as gospel but without comparisons from the initial tapes and investigation, how is the Commish believable?
BC
I'll turn it around. What evidence do you have that he isn't believable? Who's come forward with more credible info? Nobody.
JT, pass and run.
I don't know that the defense had a pass, it has just been that the defense has quieter about the changes. Both sides of the ball lacked the players they needed to execute but the defense was willing to work with the players it had. Martz continued to try and execute plays that the players just couldn't despite what everyone else wanted. IF the attack was balanced, you could at least make the next opponent have to plan for a running game. You could see in the first half of the year that teams played pretty basic defense to try and prevent the big play and defend the run. In the second half the film showed that you didn't have to worry about the run, just plan for the big play. That is probably why nobody in St. Louis was sad to see him go. The defense spent the offseason shedding players who didn't put forth the effort for its change.

More people focus on the offense than on the defense. It's the nature of football. The defense doesn't get a pass from management and the coaching staff. I was referring to fans and most of the media.

that our family had a milkman who drove a milk truck and delivered gallons of milk in glass bottles. I can still remember the old trucks and the silver-covered milk box. That's back in the days when we didn't have fat-free, 1/2% or 2% milk.
