Leyland Logic: lesson #30
Ok. Jim Leyland was brilliant in his logic again last night. After months of rest, rehab, left-field and DH'ing in multiple attempts to get Sheffield's bat going, Gary finally comes alive and essentially hits two homeruns in the opener against Baltimore. What does Mr. Leyland do the next day after Sheff tweaked his swing and looked like his old self???
HE DIDN'T START HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He left him sitting on the bench in a hitter's ballpark designed for Sheff's revamped power stroke.
Brilliant, Jim. Brilliant. You spent half a year trying everything to get Sheff's bat going, and when you finally do, you sit him.
Explain that one, Terry.
New Yorker cover
Terry. The outrage over this cover is ridiculous. Did you notice the central theme in the cartoon was the "terrorist fist bump," which was a term coined on Fox News. The cartoon was not trying to feed our fears. It was making fun of our fears. The cartoon was trying to show the people who believe Obama is a Muslim terrorist how ignorant and ridiculous they are.
Magazine Cover
The outrage over the cover is a lil much. I'm a African-American Political Science Student. Its the New Yorkers right to make the cover. Its obviously satire. Now is it in bad taste? Yes, will I be reading or buying a copy of the New Yorker this Month...NO, I might bypass even the next 2-3 months. The cover generated buzz. I mean I go to book stores fairly often and the New Yorker and Economists aren't exactly flying off shelves. Don't read the New Yorker's internet articles for a couple months, or go to their website. That will get their attention much quicker than a small one week discussion of "public outcry". Besides Obama wanted to be President he can't get upset everytime someone says something unflattering about him. He should have ignored it, talking about it gives it feet.
Magazine Cover
Terry--satire is simply satire--if one wants to make it more of an issue they can--but for all the outrage the liberals are showing means very little and quite hypocritical considering the arrows they shot all year at the Clintons--if Obama didn't want all the digs that come with running, he should not have run--free speech is free speech!!!!
Favre
Here in Madison you find 2 types of fan; Packer fans and Favre fans (Kind of like NBA fan/MJ fan in the 90's). Reading blogs here it is pretty much split down the middle. The Favre guys just can't see that he is holding the team hostage using the "legacy of Favre" over the Packers heads, they can't have him back up Rodgers and they certainly can't trade him. I know it's sick but as a Lions fan, I'm kind of enjoying this.
Muslims and Terrorism
I agree that you cannot lump everyone in a group with the actions of a few. In the case of Arab Muslims, I can't help but think of all the years prior to 9/11 how many Arabs in this country saw themselves as White and looked down on Blacks. Now, they're shocked at the treatment they are receiving now. Welcome to the real world.
not all Muslims are terrorists
The statement that all terrorist attacks since the early-1980's have been carried out by Muslims is ludicrous. In addition to the Oklahoma City bombings, what about the Unabomber or Columbine? Yes, those were terrorist attacks as well, which is to use violence to communicate a message.
not all Muslims are terrorists
You don't count Oklahoma City as terrorism? And even if you don't, what's your point? Because ALL terrorists are Muslim, we should exclude ANY Muslim from political office? How about virtually all murderers are male, so let's keep men out of office?
But that said, Terry's got a very good point. My MIL who has never in her life voted Republican might just do it this election because she is firmly convinced that Obama is a Muslim. She too cannot be dissuaded.
The Repubs know that to say "Barack HUSSEIN Obama" (wink wink nudge nudge) often enough implants that suspicion in the minds of our incredibly uneducated electorate (how many people could locate Iraq on a world map? how many people know how many Senators or Supreme Court justices there are? I rest my case). And the implication of Muslim heritage could be the kiss of death in a national election.
not all Muslims are terrorists
Ever since the Muslim's attacked the United States Marines in Beruit (1983); ALL (meaning ALL) attacks on the United States have been carried out by Muslims
NO ONE (meaning No One) is saying that ALL Muslims are terrorists, but so far Terry since 1983, ALL the terrorists have been Muslims
Dont' you just hate it
I agree with you 100% Terry. I really hate it when some form of media try to sway people by feeding into there fears. I hope the real supporters don't fall for this.
Brett Favre
I think Brett is a dinosaur and a very rare commodity in the NFL today. He loves the game, more than that he loves to play the game. It's true his prime is behind him and he just can't find it within himself to give up the game he loves. It seems in today's sports money is the only thing that really counts. Sure they enjoy the glory but most glory hounds aren't team players, they would switch teams for a buck or personal gain. Brett has stuck with Green Bay through all the years both good and bad. Like the smoker giving up those smokes he is really trying but he just can't find the strength within him to move on. Most players put up with fans, those poor fools who show up no matter what, and most players could care less about the morons in the seats. Brett is more at home on a tractor than a Ferrari, and I believe that's why arrogant sports reports don't like him and try to sway the public's opinions on him. I would like to see him retire rather than play till he ends up injured. I don't blame the fans for trying to hold onto him either but both sides need to let go and get on with their lives. Terry you've always seemed to understand the fans more than most. GB isn't making a tough decision it won't matter in the bottom line. Owners don't make tough decisions they just count cash and who they get to hang around with. Most never cared what the fans think only their friends or accountants and they call Brett selfish.
Favre
Favre's being quite selfish with his latest request to the Packers. He's one of the most endearing and embraced by the Packer legions, but surely is not putting his team first. Here's a guy that's given on-again, off-again performance throughout his career, which did indeed render championship football for his team. However, with this current move proves he's not a team guy! He should have retired. I can't feel the passion that a professional athlete like Favre, must feel. He's as tough as it gets, and understandably would want to play as long as he's physically capable. If he truly cares about the Packers organization though, he'd retire. But the Man just can't seem to take a seat.
On the other hand, I feel the Packers should grant Favre his request, and release him to free agency. Is he really going to pose a considerable threat to his old team, once signed in Chicago or?? Well... maybe.
Kwame
If this guy isn't the piece of garbage then I don't know who is. It's bad enough the he steals from the city, now he want's the city to fork out $150,000 in attorney fees?! This just goes to show what a joke our criminal system has become. Everyone on this planet knows OJ killed his wife, yet he runs free. Everyone on this planet knows Kwame is a crooked. The credit cards, the cheating, the strippers, now Fox News anchor Stinger (yes she had ties with Kwame, lets get real here.) Why is this guy still Mayor? No one has even brought up the Georgia incident when Kwame was a young punk. How much can this guy get away with?? I realize life isn't always fair but letting this guy run the streets, much less a city, makes me want to puke!!
do you believe in now?
no, i was stupid enough to believe in now last year.. bought nfl package so i could watch all the lions games. what a joke!? i have rooted for this team since before i can remember and am sure i will come back if they turn it around but for now... Go Browns!!
