The Democrats are running out of Power Hitters

Democrats have another problem for Governor in 2010. Governor Granholm is the last high profile Democrat with any name recognition for public service. She's already served as Attorney General opening the door to next generation Republican, Mike Cox, if he wants it. Republicans are expected to face similar challenges in 2010 because of the effect of term limits.

Where is Granholm to go? Michigan's top two Senate seats are already occupied. Would she mull a run for the U.S. House of Representatives? That would be a step downward on the hierarchal pyramid but it's an option if she wants to continue her political career. Although people still have favorable opinions of Granholm, her job approval ratings are in the mud.

Will Mike Bishop consider a run for Attorney General? Republicans will probably maintain their control of the Senate, but who will control the Michigan House, this fall? Odds are it could tip Republican because the state party has nothing to do with Iraq. General dissatisfaction with how state government is being run doesn't favor Granholm and the Democrats.

Whoever wins the state house this year, even Democrats appear to concede that 2010 is the year of a Republican comeback. If Mike Bishop ran for Attorney General, it would give home both name recognition and a reputation to run for Carl Levin's seat. Then again, if Republicans pick up the Congress, that could spell trouble for Debbie Stabenow in 2012.

Democracy is out of business

Libby,

If they can steal delegates to a convention and no one cares, than think of our National Elections.

Good documentary to watch

Note, Kerry most likely knew fraud occured but for some strange reason decided not to ask for investigations or recounts. Very strange.

Voter fraud, not your typical type of dead people voting, now we have technology that takes care of that.

Libby's insulting attacks on McCain

In reply to your question to Ms. Spence as to why she can't tell the truth once I suggest it is because she has, like many of her ilk, having no vaule of what truth is, and having a need to feel that she is more intelligence than all others and most important she, I would guess, has not been accepted as the "intelligence person she "thinks" she is now lashes out at the one thing ,she sees that others (mostly liberal press)lash out about she being somewhat like a lemming follows their path in order to be acceped. Being new on compters and having, more or less, just starting reading blogs, I learned early on that it is a huge waste of time to read the barbs of such fools so, for the most part I don't read her. Slip of the tongue?

CORRECTED COMMENT. No, it's NOT the same Pug as giving a day of arrival and you'll notice that Obama ended up going from Kuwait to Afghanistan today. It would make more sense to go to Iraq from there and I'll bet they had to change the plans because of that careless remark.

John, Obama doesn't own the media. They decide for themselves what to cover and there's only a couple of pool reporters actually traveling with him. The rest of the media hounds are waiting along the route, hoping he'll do something controversial no doubt.

For what it's worth, I think the media should be covering McCain far more than they do. He gets away with all kinds of boneheaded remarks while they spend three days obsessing about what Jesse freaking Jackson said. Now THAT was a non-story.

Libby ask>>>>> Do you folks EVER read the linked material that backs up my posts? That's why I go to the trouble of putting them in. If you read them, the issue isn't whether McCain mentioned he would go there, it is that he gave a timetable which if you HAD read the links to the media coverage, would know was being kept secret for SECURITY REASONS, which was mentioned in all the media quotes you apparently didn't read.Libby in your link the NYT gave the next few days as a timetable is that not the same.

McCain compromises Obama security?

This is a Non-News story. Who cares? Doesn't a canidate like Obama have a security force? of course he does, and it's paid for by the Taxpayers. So what is the big deal? If you are that concerned about HIS security then he shouldn't have gone. But then that would have upset the Media anchors's travel reservation department, or maybe they should have used Hillarys travel office staff, not their own.

Obama, is the media's darling Rock Star celebrity.

So why all the hoopla about a trip he should have taken quite some time ago, without all major news anchors. But then he was just another U.S. Senator, and a part-timer at that. Now he is a presidential canditate with a Security force. This trip is nothing more than a Liberal news media effort to show Europeans as favoring Obama as one of them. A socialist who believes in taxing its citizens into a lower, European standard of living.

Thank You for bringing it to our attention, but it is still...a non-story.

I'll cop to disliking McCain. I think he'd be a bigger disaster for this country than Bush is, but this IS a major slipup. I don't go ragging him on for every little thing like failing to remember that Czechoslovakia hasn't been a country for decades. That kind of slip doesn't mean much, but this is serious breach.

Ask yourself what your reaction would have been if the situation had been reversed. I'm pretty sure the media would be all over Obama and using it as some kind of slur on his experience and I'm betting you would agree.

McCain security violation

As the parent of an employee of the State Department who traveled with Sec. Rice for about three years, often to Iraq and Afghanistan, I am somewhat aware of the protocol for security when traveling to these danger zones. I was SHOCKED when McCain said what he said. When my daughter would go overseas, I often got the impression that she might end up in Iraq and/or Afghanistan. But NEVER did she divulge the destination because of security concerns. McCain's foolish comment placed the entire plan for the trip at risk and placed the members of the trip in a dangerous situation. Security concerns are paramount for all American officials who travel to these war zones and for McCain to so blatantly disregard their safety is an outrage. His trips there were, I assume, concerned with security and his arrivals were not advertised in advance to avoid possible attack. He should apologize to the Diplomatic Security Service for making their jobs tougher and Sen. Obama for placing his life and the lives of those traveling with him at greater risk.

Slip of the tongue?

You've got to be kidding? Every reporter has talked of it earlier in the week, and Obama himself spoke of it. McCain made "+no spilling of the beans" so to say. So you are saying that McCain put Obama at risk? What about all the reporters and Obama himself? Your dislike of McCain is sooooooooooooo obvious "sista."

Libby's insulting attacks on McCain

Libby,

Why can't you for ONCE deal honestly with a topic concerning politics??

You accuse McCain of jeopardizing the security of Obama and the congressional delegation by uttering a vague time of arrival in Iraq.

News flash Libby, the whole WORLD has known about this for a couple of weeks now. The networks are ADVERTISING it for goodness sakes!!

You also seem to ignore the fact that Gramm was entirely correct (except with the obvious exception of Michigan) in saying that we are in a mental recession. By ANY objective standard the Nation is not in a recession. Economic growth continues, average inflation adjusted wages are higher than at ANY point of the Clinton Adminisration, and any issues that there lies blame for with gas prices, are COMPLETELY due to the actions of the Democrats and the environmental lobby.

Those gas prices are also one of the primary culprits of the slow growth AND the housing "crisis". The other major factor is the anti-Bush propoganda that the media is spreading about the economy. Again, by any OBJECTIVE measure, we are fine, but the media is intent on convincing us that we are in dire straights. The problem is, is that the media CAN put us in dire straights by undermining consumer confidence, and they ARE succeeding at that. They have no real evidence, but if you tell a lie enough times, people start believing it.

TDC,

Cheers, Aerospace prior here. Wind and solar are specifically used in areas where sun is 360/365 and where wind never stops (east of the Rockies). Buffalo is a great example of local sources of power, and the West is filled with acres of prime solar energy locations as well as wind stations. I'm a big fan of MOX, but the Bush Administration in its attempts to convince people that it wants nuclear power, hasn't accomplished a single thing even with mandates of Congress they've had for a decade and aren't mentioning out loud. What we need from McCain or Obama is a policy that reflects real solutions past oil drilling. Step one is solar and wind, and if someone would actually put forward a civilian reprocessing plant idea forward into policy, MOX pellets. Cheers, Mako out.

How is that *any* different than the Democrats/liberals who have "jumped out of the woodwork" with their own ideas, solutions, etc...

I don't want a national party with solutions for only *some* citizens of certain races, creeds, etc..

Adults understand that political organizations have their unique ideas to improve / advance the nation.

The electorate decides who to believe

You are free to "declare" what you want. If your declarations have any relationship to actuality is a another topic

Are you old enough to remember the Carter era? There is a reason why Reagan was elected..and it wasn't for "doing nothing"

But since you apparently do not like "do nothings"..tell us what your democrat controlled Congress has accomplished?

Pinee "Today, the Summer of 2008, the Republican Party in election 2008 will get as in calculus terms, a vote result approaching zero, zero from my people, we American black citizens.

Every man of color in our whole wide world could and did see a problem. Fought to correct the problem, colonialism, imperialism, and white supremacy.

How is your battle against Black Supremacy, Black on Black slavery going? Based on the news reports from the Sudan, and the tyranny of Mugabe in Zimbabwe it looks like there is a lot of work to do

Or don't you care about oppression if the oppressor isn't white?

Who was freed by the "American white man" during the Civil war at the cost of hundreds of thousands of lives.

Debt paid..in full.

"pinee" a result approaching zero as far as getting an American black citizen to vote for the Republican Party.

How has your devotion to the 'dem party worked for you "Pinee" Your indicted mayor, your incompetent city council and school board are predominately democrats. The state is lead by a democrat governor.

Your side is in charge in Detroit, and leads in the state.

Do results matter?

"Never mind that China, India, etc..refuse to claim aboard"

I'm tired of this 5 year-old child's argument. The only actions you can control are your own.

I'm equally tired of the Global Warming crowd claiming that the US and industrialized nations need to act alone to solve to reduce GLOBAL C02 emisssions.

China is bringing a coal fired energy plant on line every month. How are C02 emissions going to achieve a NET reduction when a significant part of the rocks population refuses to even try?

----------------

Timber "How many times did your mother or father tell you "I don't care what so-and-so does. If so-and-so jumped off a bridge would you?"

Thats exactly what China, India, etc.. are saying to the rest of the industrialized world. You can cut C02 emissions all you want. We are not going to follow

Please explain how global CO2 emissions are going to decline without global participation?

--------------------

Timber "The United States can only control what the UNITED STATES does about carbon emissions. We should be leading by example instead of whining about what other countries aren't doing.

What if the US and the EU leads and China, India. etc...don't follow? The Global Warmng folks claim warming is a Global problem. Shouldn't it require a global solution in order to be fair and effective?

Or do you simply want "feel good" treaties that really don't address the issue?

"To scientists, these seemingly disparate incidents represent the advance signs of fundamental changes in the world's weather. The central fact is that after three quarters of a century of extraordinarily mild conditions, the earth's climate seems to be cooling down. Meteorologists disagree about the cause and extent of the cooling trend, as well as over its specific impact on local weather conditions. But they are almost unanimous in the view that the trend will reduce agricultural productivity for the rest of the century. "http://www.denisdutton.com/cooling_world.htm
