Gee, I didn't see that one coming at all.
David Archuleta and David Cook will square off in next week's "American Idol" finale, a showdown that has been increasingly inevitable for weeks.
I would have loved to see Syesha Mercado slide in there and mix things up a bit, and on Wednesday's episode there were one or two moments where I thought it was going to happen. "See ya, Cook! Make way for Mercado!" What would have happened? Would there have been a recount? Would the fact that Mercado is from Florida have resulted in another Sunshine State voting controversy? Would the words "hanging chads" have re-entered our lexicon? I wanted it to happen, I was ready for it to happen, but alas, it was not meant to be.
So here we have it, Cook and Archuleta. The really boring guy vs. the really boring guy. This is not the showdown we were promised from "the best talent pool ever" or whatever Ryan Seacrest insisted on calling this season's contestants. Instead, this ranks somewhere around the Fantasia (how ear-spilttingly horrible was she on Wednesday's show, by the way?) vs. Diana DeGarmo finale from Season 3 as the least intriguing finale ever.
Our only hope for next Wednesday's season-ender? You guessed it: The return of this season's only true breakout star, Renaldo LaPuz. If the producers have their wits about them, they'll scrap the "Idol" songwriting competition altogether and make Cook and Archuleta sing LaPuz's song. Sing it with me now: "I am your brother, your best friend forever, singing the songs, the music that you like ..."
Either that, or bring back Carly Smithson. We're fine with either.

Short and sweet. As I predicted, it's David A. vs. David C. I hated to see Syesha go though. She had personality (which won't go wasting away on the roadside. Hello Broadway, etc.) Next week will be the "Thrilla' in Manilla" type of competition. My guess is we'll also see the "David and Goliath" comparision. Tonight was - I hate to say - boring. Pretty much a wasted hour because it was in the stars (votes as it were) that it would be the two Davids even though Syesha could have the shocker and take out David Cook - NOT! What in the world did Fantasia sing? OMG! I should say, "What did Fantasia shout and yell?" Holy cow! I couldn't stand it! I never did like her anyway because she usually yells like she's on the street yellin' for her kids. Until next week, judges, bloggers and friends.

This show is really playing out the way it should, isn't it? But I'll miss Syesha. She was cool! Wow, what an emotional night! David Archuleta looked like he was going to throw up from the overwhelming-ness of it all.

Here's a big surprise from America.David Archuleta is up against David Cook. I think we all new that was going to happen.
I can't wait for the finale and if it goes anything like last year's finale, it should be interesting to say the least.
If you recall, the 'American Idol' producers choose a song that someone has written especially for the show, and the two contestants have to both sing that song, with their own twist.
Now, last year's song was a bust for the very original Blake Lewis. However, Jordin Sparks? It was like the song was written for her.
The song just seemed too perfect for one and not the other. It seemed a bit biased even though I was a fan of Miss Sparks. I hope we don't see the same thing this year.
Till next week all! P.S. Where IS everyone tonight?

Well, there we have it. It's been predicted for weeks, but it's sure to be a great finale! I figured there was a 90 percent chance it would be a David vs. David showdown, but there was that small doubt in my mind that Syesha might make it.
Syesha had a great run on this show and she'll probably be going straight from the tour to Broadway. She knew it was her time to go.
Next week will be very exciting. I think both of them have a truly equal chance of winning which will make for a suspenseful and wonderful finale!

David Cook's trip home seemed to be more inspirational than emotional for him. Very few tears from him.
I thought it was neat that he went to see the music teacher who inspired him to go into music.
He certainly is loved in his hometown.

Geez, pass the Kleenex! These videos are really stirring the emotions. I cannot imagine what it was like for the "American Idol" contestants when they went home. The turnouts are amazing. What a difference a few months makes in their lives.

What an emotional trip for Syesha Mercado. In all the past years of these contestants going to their hometowns, I don't think that I've ever seen the emotion that's been displayed thus far on the show.
These kids are wound tight living out their lifelong dream.

Well, I guess that David's trip home to Utah gave a true glimpse into the kind of young man he is. A truly sensitive boy who is not afraid to cry in front of the world.
It also showed just how many of the young ladies are supporting thins talented young fellow!
David A. is a shoe in!
