Monica Conyers
Just one more example of how Detroit is continuing to shoot itself in the foot. I guess the only positive thing is that she didn't call him "Shrek"!
Conyers arrogant disregard
It seems incredible to me that a Council person would disregard her own counsel from a parliamentarian. This Council person has a bad habit of doing so, and simply replacing people like they are a worn pair of shoes. One of the signs of a great public servant is the careful regard for the advice of those who surround her. She might want to get a few hints from our President-elect.
Baitenger v Conyers
It is clear who needs to be removed! The Parliamentarian was doing his job, one that is clearly needed. If Monica Conyers feels she is above the rules, she can join Kwame.
Conyers vs.Baitinger
Monica Conyers is a joke, she's disrespectful, arrogant, thinks she's all that because her husband is John Conyers, she makes me ill..... She may be president of city council for now, but I personally think she is racist ,and she has no class when it comes to the way she treats people especially her co-workers.Kerry is the nicest person I have ever known, he is polite, has a heart of gold and really cares about people and should not be treated that way.
Monica Conyers you won't get any nicer person then Kerry Baitinger................
conyers/baitinger scuffle
I have and always will be a huge fam of Kerry Baitinger - he is brave, honest, unafraid to say what's on his mind and loves the city of Detroit. I look forward to our next Sander's sundae and maybe a junket...he's the type of person Detroit needs to recognize and utilize. Go, Kerry! Love, Jill LH
Conyers Vs Parliamentarian
Conyers strikes again! I'm an avid viewer of the Council meetings and without the Parliamentarians Conyers and others would be lost, or caught violating not only their rules but the Charter. Keep up the good work, Mr. Baitinger, at least one of you know to keep their hands off other people.
Monica Conyers
Attention Detroit Residents -- beware she will hit you ! Council President Conyers slapped Mr. Baitnger on the forearm several times on Tuesday. Why did Ms. Conyers think it was OK to go after Mr. Baitinger? Does she have any sense in her head at all? The job of the parliamentarian is to keep her out of trouble. We all know she is not smart enough to know the proper parlimentary procedures for holding a meeting. Next time Mr. Baitinger, DUCK !
Det City Council--Conyers v.s.Parliamentarian
Oh puleeeeez. Ms. Conyers NOT following procedures obviously happens so frequently that she found it necessary to "seat" the council's parliamentarians next to her so that the whole room doesn't have to listen to them repeatedly having to remind her of procedure. If the parliamentarian had tapped her hands, she would have called a news conference and complained of assault. She now wants someone "nicer" as her parliamentarian? Does she have the competency to recognize "nice"? Obviously NOT. the-beat-goes-on..........
Detroit City Council
DETROITERS, LOOKING FROM THE OUTSIDE, IN -- 2009 CLEAN HOUSE -- ALL OF IT -- NOT SOME OF IT!!!! WISH YOU LUCK!!!
This Rossman Poll is skewed! Statistically Speaking...
No way, does the people think that Fieger should be Mayor over Hood-nothing against Feiger-we need a Cochran type in the Court room...but no way should Hood be excluded...this is nothing but political trammeling.
This is why a public access channel would be great!
Oh, but Carolyn Kilpatrick is in the bed with Comcast to sell out the little people (She's taking PAC money from Comcast).
Wayne State should take up the slack here and put on its on debate sponsored by the College of Performing and Commnication Arts. The Dean should invite the other three---and not Bing, Cockrel, or Hendrix...this way McPhail, Hood, Evans, Coleman, III should debate!
I am sending a letter myself to the Dean espousing this very idea and I am Cc'n the Detroit News' Howe and Finley!
Statistically speaking Radio One cannot have all candidates on the dais, but some other institution should stand in the GAP even if its Perfecting Church!
At least Pastor Winans has opened his church up to getting information during the election cycles---commendable!
Who will stand in the gap...
Statistically speaking Detroiters like me should be speak up enmasse about the dearth of candidates debating...why should there be only one debate franchise in the 11th largest city....
Demo list properties
David, Nice job on the video. Let's remember to tell the readers that there are over 100,000 parcels in the city that are off the tax rolls because of tax issues and many are in the state that you show. The list of property is growing at a rate that will cripple the city in a very short time. On top of that the city is the highest taxed municipality in the state, at 81 mils we are driving people out of the city as fast as the foreclosure mess is. We need a major commitment to demolition and a land use policy that reflects forward thinking and not the type that supports the status quo. Our city was designed to hold 2 million and only reached 1.8 million. We are at half of that number now and falling. A fifth of all property is not producing revenue for the city or county. We need dramatic changes at all levels to right the ship or unspeakable things will be happening in the near future.
Not Feasible That All Mayoral Candiates Debate.
With the field of Mayoral contestants sprawling-it is not conceivable for more than four candidates on one night to be featured. The Presidential Commission on Debates left out Ralph Nader and La Rouche-two candidates with good ideas about what the government could do better.
Likewise, how would one sponsor a debate for the Detroit City Council when in all likelihood there will be over 100 candidates-conservatively speaking-that will vy.
This why other media such as citizens who can get interviews and post them on youtube and for other paper media such as the Michigan Chronicle to interview others while the Free Press and Detroit News interview yet others.
I am a candidate for Detroit City Council and I believe the City Council Debates should not take place until after the Primary in August 2009. This way the field of contestants will be narrowed to 18. Then over the next 90 days ensuing more attention can be given to those 18 candidates and how they differ.
Simlarly, the debates for the Mayoral candidates could take place after the primary special election. This way there will be on two candidates and this way more than one debate could be put on, otherwise, it is not feasible that all Mayoral candidates debate or City Council candidates.
Mayor Ken Cockrel
Mayor Ken Cockrel, Jr. is the man for the job and is cleaning up the mess that kk left. He is a man of integrity and will do great for the people of Detroit. He should finish out the term as mayor until the 2009 election.
Rev. Hood has many ties to the kk group if you look up his past. - Rev. Hood should stay at the church where he is needed.
Dennis Archer
Everyone in Detroit knows what Archer's game plan is about.
He's positioning himself to run for governor of Michigan.
If he does, I hope he loses because he would complete the destruction of Detroit.
Top billing!
I think his personal mantra of Integrity first and foremost and Leadership second and Service next is right on the line of where Dettroiters want to see their Mayor.
Might I add that the Plumb Line is a hard line to tow, but once you have set the boundaries of your actions by your virtue its a good bet that your efforts will be rewarded.
My final two: Hood vs. Hendrix or Hood vs. Bing....
I think this election is well----Sooooo Hood!
