Women plan man-boycott -- on Obama

Now that Hillary is losing, some of her women backers cry sexism. They see a plot at every turn. And they're organizing to boycott Obama in November.

It boils down to this: They won't support Obama because he's a man.

C'mon gals. That attitude, too, is sexism.

How about judging the issues and then make your call? Don't throw a vote away in a snit. Lots of men died in battle to create that right, way back when.

Backing Hillary as the feminist candidate is amusing. She rose to power by riding Bill's coattails for 30 years. Not exactly a self-made woman.

If rookie candidate Hillary McGillicutty from Arkansas ran for senator in New York, she would lose.

Sweetie asks Obama a question

"Hold on one second, sweetie..."

-- Barack Obama to a woman reporter asking about his views on helping auto workers.

Nice to see pleasantries like that. A kinder, gentler campaign. In Sterling Heights.

Race, age play role in Hillary win

Hillary's West Virginia supporters are elderly and racist, according to exit polling. Some 40 percent said race was an important factor in their vote. About 40 percent of Hillary voters were over 60 years old.

That presents a Hillary problem. She nails Obama for narrow support, as it young voters and blacks. But Hillary has an equally narrow, different range of support.

However, West Virginians love Bill Clinton. Three quarters of Hillary voters in Tuesday's primary said Bill's campaigning was important to their vote.

The Dem race has been divisive, no matter what party leaders say.

Here for detailed exit polling.

Detroit's top export: Kwame stories

So who's taking care of business? Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick spends his time and money trying to keep his tail out of jail. The City Council just upped the ante on its efforts to throw hizzoner out of office.

You can imagine what potential investors are thinking. Mostly, they're thinking Ohio, Illinois, Texas -- anywhere but Detroit and Michigan.

In art, big wins big

Of all the nude paintings in the world, the heaviest is drawing the heaviest price. That would be "Benefits Supervisor Sleeping" by Lucian Freud at $35 million.

Counterintuitive wins.

The model, Big Sue, was paid a few bucks a day to pose for the portrait.

Meet the Press verdict: Obama

For what it's worth, the consensus this morning on "Meet the Press" is that Obama wins the Dem nomination. With the obvious proviso that Hillary is tough. The Clintons, after all, won several times after hanging in against all odds, including Bill's round with impeachment re Monica.

The theory mill: Hillary, Nancy and Kwame

Theories spun on the Chris Matthews show: Nancy Pelosi doesn't like Hillary all that well. It's like a "girl-on-girl" catfight," one panelist said.

Theory 2: Some Dems are worried that the Kwame Kilpatrick flap will somehow generate a black backlash that would cost Obama Michigan in November, should he be the nominee.

Obama, by the way, says he will soon begin campaigning in Michigan.

Stay tuned.

Flubs by Democrats: Michida and Florigan

"Florigan" or "Michida." Those are shorthand terms to describe the mess Dems have made of the Florida and Michigan primaries. Lots of efforts to solve the problem.

But fact is, neither candidate will voluntarily agree to a deal that cost him or her the election. Nor should they. Both primaries were flawed. And neither should be a factor in determining the nomination. But both delegations could be admitted as convention guests, with full rights to wear funny hat.

Among weekend cable chatter: suggestions Hillary would use Michigan and Florida as a "nuclear option." That is, she would take the matter to a floor fight in a last ditch effort to edge Obama.

Now she likes Michigan. But back in January, she blew off the state, never showing up once to campaign. Neither did Obama.

Render to Caesar, except in Kansas

Should the Catholic governor of Kansas take communion? Well, the Catholic bishop in Kansas City says "no" as he yanks time back to the Middle Ages, when clergy dominated secular government. He pounded Gov. Kathleen Sebelius for her pro-abortion stand.

As it turns out, she leads all Kansans, not just Roman Catholics. So the prelate seems off base.

Any number of Catholics rub against church rules and take communion. Divorced couples. Women on birth control. Sinners in general. Hookers, too, no doubt. They all make it a private matter between them and You Know Who.

Archbishop Joseph Naumann actually wrote the governor asking her to stop taking communion, one of the church's principal sacraments.

These things always raise the question: "What would Jesus do?"

"Render to Caesar..." seems a good rule here.

Kwame: Pretty in red

Little Kwame Kilpatrick in drag. The amazing thing in the story is the rapid denial from the mayor's staff, sensitive to criticism in the wake of Textgate. Then came the retraction: Yes, hizonner once flashed his feminine side in a school play.

He wore a red dress that didn't make him look fat. Didn't shave his legs.

Lots of people have been in dumb school plays. It's part of what schools do in lieu of education.

And it's also getting a tad surreal over there in city hall. Time to cut a deal with the mayor that requires no jail time on the perjury charge.

Here for story.
