Frozen Football
With wind chill temps in the teens, a group of 10 buddies take to the iced-over grass in front of the Fox Creek Golf Course for a game of touch football in Livonia, Michigan on December 31, 2008. Brian Hayes (left) and Matt Gregory battle for a loose ball during the group scrimmage in the cold and snow that lasts almost three hours. The "amateur football team" plays every Wednesday in the winter and switches to basketball and baseball in the summer.

Fort Shelby glamour reborn
New York artist Kathleen Spicer (left) holds a piece of canvas, printed with her paintings of the original ornamentation, as Madias Brothers Inc. paper hanger Tom Derdelakos adheres it to the ceiling in the ballroom at the Fort Shelby Hotel in Detroit. Spicer re-created the room's original designs using rubbings taken from the horribly damaged ceiling that could not be replaced. The Albert Kahn-designed hotel is being renovated into a Doubletree Guest Suites.

Dashing Donut Wins!
Ford Field rocked last Thursday, as the Detroit Lions took on the Tennessee Titans for the annual NFL Thanksgiving Day celebration of football. I haven't heard the crowd cheer that loud in a long time. Like a certain Hall of Fame Lions running back that Detroiters know only as Barry, the ball carrier cut back and fourth, knocking over defenders, avoiding tackles, sidestepping to the end zone...what a play! The only problem was none of the Lions or Titans were involved in the action. The loudest cheering that you hear at Ford Field lately is when Dunkin Donut Hall of Famers Biggie Bagel, Cuppie Coffee and Dashing Donut take to the field. With an illegal chop block, Dashing Donut, twice suspended for caffeine doping, side stepped into the end zone to take the prize, or give the prize to section 210 I should say, as Ford Field faithful cheered and bored Titan players finally found something to keep them interested in. At 0-12, there isnt much for a Lions fan to do except to cheer for dudes in silly outfits running haphazardly around the field...Oh stop it, I was referring to bagel, coffee and donut, geez.

It's Scarf and Glove weather
Every year when squirrels start preparing for winter, gathering nuts, wearing scarves, planning the eventual take over of the world, I like to ... wait a minute, wearing scarves? Saw this squirrel wearing a bright orange scarf the other day near my house and was patient enough for me to run inside and grab a camera. It looks like the scarf may actually be one of those orange ties that they put on stakes for marking construction areas but the story behind his wardrobe decision is unknown. Fortunately it wasn't one those penguins caught in a plastic 6-pack tie situation, it looked pretty loose. I'm guessing by the attention he is getting from me and probably other squirrels, he made the decision that orange is the new brown in squirrel fashion circles.

Face Time
While in Chicago for the Lions 8th loss, went down to Millennium Park and came across this rather large womens face on a sculpture titled Crown Fountain. It was one of hand full of amazing modern scultures that adds 'bling' to an already glitzy cityscape.
